The Hammer Conversations series welcomes Susan Meiselas, a documentary photographer best known for her coverage of the insurrection in Nicaragua and human rights issues in Latin America, and author William T. Vollmann (Imperial, Europe Central, The Atlas, Rising Up and Rising Down). Tickets are required, and are available at the Hammer’s Billy Wilder Theater Box Office one hour prior to start time. Limit one ticket per person on a first come, first served basis. Free. 7 pm.

We believe that tonight’s Culture in the Canyon at the Chautauqua Series is going to be a lot more crowded. San Andreas-The Big Fault has helped shape the Santa Monica Mountains and our lives. Dr. David Lynch will discuss the “origin, mechanics, and impact of the web of fault lines connecting us to the San Andreas Fault in California.” Meet at Woodland Hall. 1.5 hrs. 7:30 pm.
STORIES
The Moth LA holds its monthly Eastside edition tonight at El Cid. With the theme of “animals,” storytellers are asked to prepare a five-minute story on critters, furry, slimy and everything in between. Reading from notes or standup routines are not allowed. Hosted by Brian Finklestein, doors open at 6 pm and stories begin at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $8 at the door.
TALK
Tonight Zócalo presents the program Are We Drowning in Information? with journalist James Gleick, whose most recent book is The Information: A Theory, a History, a Floor. He’ll discuss the history of information and how we’ll manage it in the future. At the Petersen Automotive Museum. Free, but reservations are recommended. Parking is $8 with validation. 7:30 pm.
