A coach at Bernstein High in Hollywood faces charges after allegedly assaulting a student in a locker room on Feb. 28. Charged with felony assault, 33-year-old Jorge Chavez was arrested on March 1 and released the same day on $50,000 bail, reports the LA Times.

Photos reportedly show a large welt on the student's face from where Chavez allegedly kicked him, said a district official. Notes the LA Times, Chavez is 5 foot 8 and weighs 210 pounds according to booking info from the Sheriff's Department.

Coach Chavez had been at the school only six days before the alleged attack, and is currently reassigned to a noncampus job pending further developments, reports the LA Times. Previously, he'd taught at Nimitz Middle School for four years and, according to district records, held a temporary position elsewhere from late October 2010 to mid-February 2011.
