OSCAR SHORTS*
Actor, writer, director, producer Kenneth Branagh hosts the program Shorts! The 2010 Animated and Live Action Short Film Nominees at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences tonight at 7:30 pm in honor of Oscar week. The evening features screenings of all the nominated films in the Animated and Live Action Short Film categories, plus an onstage discussion with the filmmakers in attendance. Limited number of $5 tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the door. Lineup begins at 5:30 pm with number distribution.

LECTURE
The Pasadena Museum of History hosts the program History of Eagle Rock - Illustrated Lecture and Book Signing with Eric Warren tonight at 7:30 pm. Warren, author of the book Eagle Rock, will give an illustrated lecture on the Eagle Rock area based on the text and vintage images in his book. Doors open at 6:30 pm for viewing the Mad for Hats! and Pasadena Patron exhibitions in the adjacent galleries. Wine and cheese reception with the author following lecture. Tickets for nonmembers: $5, members are free. Reservations are requested by calling 626.577.1660, ext. 10.

PERFORMANCE
the wulf. is an experimental arts space in Downtown LA and tonight, it hosts performances by Rick Bahto and Mark So. Bahto's Sparse Gardens (2010) is a performance for 35 mm Kodachrome slides and cassette tape. Here's the description: "Two types of gardened spaces common in Phoenix are compared visually and sonically: the fussily landscaped strips and islands of parking lots and driveways, and vacant lots, bulldozed clear of buildings or natural desert that have been re-inhabited by weeds or rogue/remnant landscaping plants." Composer So performs Girls on the Run (Other dreams.) [readings 37] (2010) [Ashbery series]. There's a dessert reception with the artists afterward.

BOOK PARTY
Tonight, Diesel, A Bookstore in Brentwood hosts a release party for Father Greg Boyle's book Tattoos on the Heart, tonight at 7 pm. Fr. Greg, Jesuit priest and founder of Homeboy Industries, will be at the store to celebrate his book's paperback release.
