John Waters Dirties Up Royce Hall Tomorrow

In the mood for something subversive? You're in luck. The ever-peculiar John Waters will be taking the Royce Hall stage on February 23rd as part of the ongoing UCLA Live season. Parents: you've been warned.

Waters is best known as a charming (if eccentric) countercultural icon, having helmed such cult films as 1972's Pink Flamingos, Cecil B. Demented and the original Hairspray (which was turned into a hit Broadway show, and then BACK into a movie). His topics are usually edgy, his style beguiling, and his sense of self-censorship non-existent. His current live show, This Filthy World Goes Hollywood, is a humorous deconstruction of our times through a pop culture lens. There are the Hollywood heroics of course, but Waters is also interested in the scandals, the underbelly, and the deeply rooted motives that keep this town running.

And for you current Bruins, Waters will be doing a student-only show tonight for free! In fact, you might even get lucky enough to catch Waters twice if you're a regular ticket-holder and you'd like to RSVP.

Elvis Perkins is scheduled to open the show with a solos set, with noted television actor Matthew Gray Gubler expected to be in attendance as well. Tickets range from $28-$48 ($15 for students), and can be purchased from the UCLA Live website.
