The unidentified victim was burgled Sunday afternoon at his home in Santa Ana Heights. A neighbor alerted the authorities that two men were breaking in; the perps "used a hammer to break some glass on the front door and get inside." Their haul was several boxes of marijuana, which the victim estimates to be worth about $50,000.
The resident says he has a permit to grow the crop, however "Newport Beach City Attorney David Hunt says the city doesn't give out kind of pot growing permit or license." According to the Daily Pilot, Hunt thinks perhaps the victim was referring to a medical marijuana prescription for personal usage.
Two suspects were arrested off the 55 Freeway in Santa Ana. "Gary Alexander Turcios, 33, of Stanton, and Scott Matthew Bancroft, 34, of Yorba Linda, are charged with residential burglary and transportation and sale of marijuana," and will appear in court next week.
