Brown to Talk Budget Tonight at Dinner at Fancy DTLA Hotel

Making his first trip to Los Angeles after being sworn in last month as Governor, Jerry Brown will speak tonight at the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce’s 122nd annual Inaugural Dinner at the JW Marriott at L.A. Live, according to CBS2. On the menu for his talk: California's massive budget shortfall.

Brown has not been shy about telling Californians that belts are going to need to be tightened before we can fatten up our cash-strapped coffers. Realingment of numerous agencies, curbed spending for education and other state programs, as well as controversial proposals to axe entire programs, such as the community redevelopment agencies, have all been laid out in his proposed state budget.

To achieve his goals, tax increases are in the works, however the governor "has yet to publicly win any Republican support to get the two- thirds vote required to place the tax increase extension on the ballot."

Tonight's banquet is a $500-a-plate affair benefiting the Chamber. The event "is recognized as the premier business and civic leadership event in Los Angeles."
