Jailed Enron CEO Denied Release to Attend Son's Funeral

Jeffrey Skilling, the former Enron exec found guilty in 2006 on 20 of 28 counts of conspiracy, fraud, false statements, and insider trading, has been denied his request for temporary release in order to attend the funeral of his son, John Taylor "J.T." Skilling, according to the AP.

J.T. Skilling, 20, was found dead in his Santa Ana apartment last week. The Chapman University student's cause of death remains undetermined, pending results of toxicology reports. Authorities say prescription bottles were found on the scene, near the body. Skilling's friends say he had been despondent following a recent breakup.

The elder Skilling, currently serving a 24-year sentence, found his request to get out of jail for the funeral "denied without explanation" by the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. Skilling is currently appealing his conviction.
