Keith Olbermann is Headed to Current TV

When Keith Olbermann stunned viewers with the news he was done with his popular program "Countdown" and with MSNBC, many speculated that it would not be long before the news biz's left-leaning bad boy announced his next industry move. That announcement came today, with word that Olbermann is headed to the small cable network CurrentTV, where he "will host a one-hour, nightly primetime show" starting later in the spring, and will serve as the network's "chief news officer," says HuffPo. Olbermann will also "will have an equity stake in Current Media," says Current's official announcement.

Olbermann is reportedly enamored with Current's "free media" modus operandi, and hailed the network during a conference call this morning as television's "model truth seeking entity." The feeling is mutual, according to Current's chairman, Al Gore, who said the incoming newsman is perfect for the network.

Current, which was launched in August 2005, is headquartered in San Francisco, with offices in New York and Los Angeles. Is Olbermann coming back to Los Angeles? The broadcaster has lived and worked here before in news television, primarily as a sports reporter.
