Get Out: Noises Off at A Noise Within, 4 Exhbits at the Armory, Craft & Folk Art Museum Openings, and dineLA's 'Restaurant Week' Begins

THEATRE
A Noise Within have reprised their hilarious and critically acclaimed production of the joyfully out-of control British farce Noises Off, with shows today at 2 and 7 p.m. Company Co-Founders/Co-Artistic Directors Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott co-direct the production, in which Elliott also performs, which was presented last season for the first time in the company's history and garnered rave reviews. ART
Four new exhibits open today at the Armory Center for the Arts: "Sympathetic Magic: Video Myths and Rituals" (modes of storytelling, ritual, and everyday magic through video art); "Nuttaphol Ma: Ruins of Daedalus' Labyrinth" (a maze-like installation based on a story of migration and survival); "Haruko Tanaka: Café Kiss of the World"; and "Synthesis: 97 Questions" (Students from Mayfield Senior School respond visually and not verbally to 97 questions; the result being more intuitive, non-sequential, and visually spontaneous work).

MUSEUM
One of two exhibits opening today at the Craft and Folk Art Museum, "A Marriage of Craft and Design: The Work of Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman" allows guests to explore the work of artist-designers the Ackermans, who brought beautiful, yet affordable, home accessories to a rapidly expanding post-World War II California population. With their talents in decorative art and design, the couple helped to shape the phenomenon that came to be known as “Mid-Century California Modernism.” Secondly, with "Crossing the Line: A Space by Tanya Aguiñiga," Aguiñiga will create a spontaneous, site-specific structure. Made up of criss-crossed yarn with floating woven pieces that are intersected with furniture made specifically for the exhibition, the work will experiment with boundaries and suspension. The result will be a sort of cave where visitors can seek respite, with a mix of the functional and the purely aesthetic—a connection of disparate planes.

FOOD
dineLA's twice-yearly "Restaurant Week" launched its Winter 2011 edition today, with almost 300 restaurants participating. Among the melange of family-friendly, fine dining, chain, hotel, casual, lunch-oriented, steakhouses, sushi spots, and romantic restaurants are some of the city's hottest dining destinations. Sundays are best for dinners; reservations recommended at some establishments.
