Biographies In A Bag is a series of one acts, written by Lynn Ferguson that premiered at the 2004 Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2004. Each play presented follows three rules: It is 30 minutes long; the set is one single chair, and the props are only what can be carried on to the stage in on bag a the beginning of the act; the performer must reveal something of their own life intertwined with the true biography of a notable, yet seemingly, unrelated person, like Arthur Schopenhauer or Doris Day. 8 pm tonight at the Stella Adler Theater. $15. Runs through Wednesday.

San Pedro’s Sandro Meallet, the winter Annenberg Beach House Writer in Residence, reads from his as yet untitled memoir that he's spent the last nine weeks working on at the Beach House. 6:30 pm. Tickets are free but seating is limited and reservations are required.
OVATION AWARDS
The LA theater community comes together tonight for the LA Stage Alliance’s 2009/2010 Ovation Awards Ceremony. Hosted by the Cabrillo Music Theatre and the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, both front and behind-the-scenes players and productions will be honored. 7:30 pm. Since it’s a trek out to Thousand Oaks, the LA Stage Alliance has arranged travel coaches from several points in LA. Tickets to the awards tonight are $10-$160.

Today’s the last day of Photo LA at the Santa Monica Civic Center. The largest photo-based art fair in the country celebrates its 20th anniversary by showcasing both classic and contemporary photography, video and multi-media installations. It’s open until 6 pm tonight.

It’s a Target Free Monday at LACMA today to celebrate MLK day. Enjoy live performances with the jazz group the Pan Afrikan People's Arkestra at 12:30 pm and 2:45 pm. 12-8 pm. (Special exhibitions not included.)
