The UCLA Film and Television Archives hosts a screening of SF Bay Area alternative films tonight at 7 pm. The evening is being held in conjunction with the Pacific Film Archive’s first book, Radical Light: Alternative Film and Video in the San Francisco Bay Area, 1945-2000, edited by Steve Anker, Kathy Geritz, and Steve Seid. They’ll be in attendance tonight to discuss the films shown, like the 35 mm, silent film, A Trip Down Market Street Before the Fire (1906), directed by Miles Brothers.

Oscar and Grammy Award-winning songwriter Carole Bayer Sager is also a painter, and tonight she debuts her new collection of lyrical, abstract paintings at her first ever solo show at the LA Art House. Generations: New Paintings by Carole Bayer Sager will be up through Feb. 12.
OPEN MIC
Tonight LAXART is holding an open mic night for artists and entertainers alike tonight at 7 pm. Each performer will have up to eight minutes on stage, so expect the unexpected. The lottery for performance slots take place from 7-7:30 pm.
LECTURE
The Velaslavasay Panorama presents a heady, illustrated lecture on color vocabulary by Dr. Zed Adams of the New School for Social Research in New York. His lecture—What if Esquimaux had No Words for Blue? The History & Philosophical Significance of 19th Century Color Vocabulary Studies— uses as a starting point William Gladstone’s claim that Homer's color vocabulary in the Iliad revealed that the ancient Greeks were color-blind. There will also be a color-themed reception held afterward in the garden area of the theater. 8 pm. Tickets: $10.
