Pencil This In: Another Alt-Circus in Town, Photo LA Reception and The A.W.A.R.D. Show! at REDCAT

Photo LA celebrates its 20th edition today at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium with an opening reception tonight from 6-9 pm. It’s the largest largest photo art fair in the country, expecting to draw more than 10,000 attendees during its run. See great contemporary photography, video and multimedia installations along with classic photo works. Tickets for the opening reception are $80, but general admission for other days is $20, with multiday passes available.
AWARDS
Add another entry to awards season: The 2nd annual Tasty Awards honors outstanding food and fashion programs online, in film and on TV. The awards ceremony is being held tonight at the Egyptian Theater tonight from 7-9 pm. There are a limited number of VIP tickets ($135) or general admission for $95.
THEATER
The French Canadian company Les 7 doigts de la main bring their alt-circus show Traces to LA for the first time. “Six men and one woman give dazzling, gravity-defying displays of skill, balancing casually on each other’s heads, or tumbling through hoops and leaping spectacularly up giant poles without using their hands…” The show also follows the performers’ real lives through film clips, narration and music. At the Ricardo Montalban Theater through Feb. 20. Tickets: $25-69.
THEATER
Silver Lake resident Katya Lidsky brings her one-woman dramedy I'm Sorry to The Lounge Theatre tonight at 8 pm. It’s her story of how she transformed from a “people-pleasing apologist to becoming an animal-loving activist,” playing 16 characters along the way. Tickets: $12.50 online and $15 at the door. Runs from Jan. 13-15 and Jan. 21-23.
DANCE
Forget about Dancing with the Stars. You want to see real, modern dancers in action? The A.W.A.R.D. Show! takes over REDCAT tonight, showcasing the talents of local dancers and—just like on reality TV—the audience has a say in awarding $10,000 to a regional choreographer. Tonight’s program includes Rachael Lincoln and Leslie Seiters, Arianne MacBean, Barak Marshall and Christine Suarez
