Lawsuit Might Be Filed Against Nuñez Sentence Reduction

When Arnold reduced Esteban Nuñez's prison sentence from 16 years to 7 years in the stabbing death of a San Diego college student for what appeared to be overtly political reasons attributed to his close relationship with former Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez, many California residents were outraged, including the vicitm's family. The victim's family is so upset, they may file a lawsuit calling for the commuted sentence to be overturned, according to LA Now.

The act of commutation, one of Schwarzenegger's final acts as California Governor, resulted in accusations of cronyism from many quarters and Schwarzenegger sent a letter of apology to the victim's family after the public outcry.

Well, letter-schmetter. Fred Santos, the victim's father, isn't buying it. "The context of the letter was to give some excuses...we do not believe in the sincerity of his letter." Santos believes the decision to reduce Nuñez's sentence is "100% politics and nothing but."

Adding more fuel to the fire, Schwarzenegger not only dramatically cut down the jail time for Esteban Nuñez, but he issued an executive order that seals all correspondence he received on the matter. Santos believes this proves Schwarzenegger's guilt. "He knew this was wrong and he want to keep it a secret."
