LAst Night's Action: Clippers Chill Heat
LA Clippers defeat Miami Heat 111-105. If before the season you would have placed money on which game the Miami Heat would lose when they came to town, I don't think anyone would have figured that this would be the game. But it's hardly surprising. The Clippers beat the New Orleans Hornets when they had the best record. Ditto San Antonio Spurs. And the Heat just become another notch in the Clippers bedpost.
And it started in the first quarter with the Heat defense looking suspect giving up 44 points to the Clippers - the most they've given up in a quarter all season. Perhaps LeBron James' fingers were tired from tweeting, karma maybe? Or maybe the Clippers are just that good - after all they have won seven of their last ten games including a win at Chicago and a win against Denver.
Baron Davis looked like the Baron Davis of old with 20 points and an assist shy of a double-double. Eric Gordon led the scoring for the team with 26 points while Blake Griffin has his double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds despite having back spasms down the stretch.
And that stretch did get interesting with the Heat cutting down the Clippers lead to only two points with 6:35 remaining after going on a 10-0 run. But things got back going for the Clippers notably after a double-technical was issued to Mario Chalmers and Griffin. On the ensuing play, Davis fed Griffin just outside the paint who took one step, launched and emphatically slammed the ball home starting down Chalmers as he jogged down the court.
The expected swoon didn't happen, and the Clippers broke the Heat's 13-game road winning streak.
LA Lakers defeat Golden State Warriors 115-110.
Anaheim Ducks defeat St. Louis Blues 7-4.
