Riding public transportation saves you roughly $10k a year, according to the monthly Transit Savings Report released by the American Public Transportation Association.

Los Angeles ranked 8th in the transportation savings report, showing that on average, a Metro-riding Angeleno can save $860 per month just by ditching their car and taking public transport.

How did the APTA arrive at such a deliciously juicy savings number? They took into account national gas prices ($2.96 per gallon via AAA) and the national average cost for a monthly unreserved space in a downtown business district ($161.56) and determined that just parking your car can cost up to $1,939 a year.

The amount each rider saves is up by more than $400 when compared with the same time last year and with all the concern over rising Metro fare prices, this news should take away the sting.

Ditch your cars and save. So simple, so good for your wallet.
