Breaking: Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Shot In The Head

According to NPR, U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot in the head and at least 10 other people, including members of her staff, were injured outside a grocery store in Tucson while holding a public event, reports Arizona Public Media.

The Democrat, re-elected to a third term in November, was hosting a "Congress on Your Corner" event at a Safeway in northwest Tucson, "when a gunman ran up and started shooting," according to Peter Michaels, news director of Arizona Public Media, reports NPR. Giffords was reportedly speaking with a couple when the suspect began firing.

A bystander apprehended the suspect and Giffords was transported to University Medical Center in Tucson. Her condition was not immediately known, reports NPR. Huffington Post is streaming updates on this breaking story.
