Pencil This In: Vacation, Singin' in the Rain on the Big Screen, Bukowski at the Huntington

It's still a little quiet on the LA event front, but here are a couple options:

FILM
For those still in the vacation mood, the ArcLight Hollywood screens National Lampoon’s Vacation tonight at 8 pm. Director Harold Ramis follows the Griswolds Clark (Chevy Chase), mother Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo) and kids (Anthony Michael Hall and Dana Barron) who travel to their favorite theme park, Walley World. But nothing is ever easy for the Griswolds. (Just like those people who tried to get into Disneyland last week.)

ART* 
The Huntington presents Charles Bukowski: Poet on the Edge, an exhibition on the works of Charles Bukowski, who helped break taboos in 20th century American literature. “With unflinching honesty and strong language, his poems and tales speak of life on the streets of Los Angeles among the prostitutes, drunks, gamblers, and outcasts  struggling to survive in an unforgiving world.” Bukowski’s papers were donated to the library by his wife, Linda Lee Bukowski, in 2006. On view through Feb. 14. Open today until 4:30 pm. $15.

The Bay Theatre in Seal Beach screens the classic musical Singin' In The Rain tonight at 8 pm. This 1952 film with Gene Kelly, Donald O’ Conner and Debbie Reynolds focuses on the film industry’s transition from silent films to talkies with great song and dance numbers. Props to the Bay Theatre which uses real 35mm archival film prints and not enlarged DVD projections. Tickets: $8; $6, seniors 55+ and students with ID.
