A Huntington Park man was hit and killed by a trash truck last night, according to KTLA.

The trash truck was working its usual route near the 7400 block of Marbrisa Avenue near Florence Avenue when it backed up in an alley and ran over a man who was on his way to buy water.

The garbage truck driver said he "did" hear a noise, but he continued backing up and "didn't realize what he had hit until he saw the body of the gentleman."

Why was the trash truck driver backing up in a narrow alley? To get to homes he missed. The truck had a rear-facing camera installed, but the driver says he did not see the man he hit prior to backing up.

The victim's niece said he was "a very humble person" who was loved by family and neighbors.
