The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is also in on the no-no act, reminding Angelenos that shooting into the air can be deadly and that those caught doing so face possible felony charges. They urge residents to remember that "you can enjoy the festivities without placing the public in danger."
They don't want what should be the celebration of a New Year "ruined by senseless tragedy just because someone thought it would be 'fun' to shoot a gun in the air."
In 1998, two people were killed by falling bullets in L.A. on New Year's Day and on July 4th a 9-year-old boy was killed by a celebratory bullet.
As New Year's Eve draws ever closer, please keep this in mind L.A. Here's to a safe and bullet-free New Year.
