SoCal Storm Damage Could Reach $60M, State of Emergency Declared

The daily scenes of downed trees, washed-away homes, mud-caked hillsides and flooded streets will be expensive. Lt. Gov Abel Maldonado declared a state of emergency yesterday for Los Angeles and damage from the storm is expected to reach $60 million, according to LA Now.

How did we get to $60 million so quickly? Two key areas need most of the resources.

The damage in hard-hit Highland will reach $17 million after 26 homes sustained extensive damage and cars remain buried in 4 feet of mud.

Laguna Beach got the worst of it and damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure is estimated to come in at $23 million.

More rain is expected Saturday and a storm is headed our way next week, so these damage estimates will likely rise with the waters.
