Back to the Future at Universal Studios was the backdrop for the announcement on Monday by the California Plug-In Electric Vehicle Collaborative about its plan to make the state ready for 1 million plug-in hybrid and battery-powered cars by the year 2020.

Representatives of Tesla Motors, Pacific Gas & Electric, Better Place and public and private officials issued a report congratulating automakers, electric utilities, infrastructure providers, regulators, and public health organizations for working together, "to support a new transportation plan for California," said Diane Wittenberg, executive director and chairman of the California Plug-In Electric Vehicle Collaborative reports Biz Journals.

The group is proposing, a simpler installation process for home charging stations, more stations at apartments buildings, a restructuring of electricity prices to encourage off-peak vehicle charging, development of new service industries, and a future where finding a charging station is easier than finding a gas station. Electric unicorns for everybody!
