When it comes to immigration law and the many voices on every side of the equation, the "undocumented" are often referred to as "workers" and many of the high profile cases involve nannies and housekeepers. But wildly successful actresses? Not so often.

In a recent interview with Spain's V magazine, Salma Hayek confessed that she was once an illegal immigrant in the U.S. for "a small period of time," according to ABC7.

Though Hayek is now a naturalized U.S. citizen, when she moved to Los Angeles in 1991 to study acting she wasn't legal.

She has spoken in the past about the racial discrimination she endured during that time as well as her Hollywood experiences where "it was inconceivable to American producers and directors that a Mexican woman could have a lead role."
