Summer's Over! Lifeguard Towers Back to Boring Blue

Emblazoned with vibrant, cheery colors and eye-catching patterns, Los Angeles County's lifeguard towers have now been returned to their basic blues, marking an official, albeit calendar-challenged, end to the "Summer of Color."

Last month the patterned panels, all of which had been hand-painted in the spring by volunteers as part of a large-scale public art project, were removed, according to Redondo Beach patch, and all that remained were the rails, which had been painted in bold purples, reds, yellows, and more.

Still, over the weekend, volunteers once again put paint to rail, and restored the towers to their standard blue. One painter wasn't so sure about his work:

"I really don't see the point in repainting the rails when they looked so great when they were yellow, blue, green," said volunteer Teo Lee, a Vistamar School 10th grader.
