Originally Nelson was charged with carrying six ounces -- a felony that carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison and a $10,000 fine -- however the amount was re-calibrated to four ounces which knocks down the penalty to a misdemeanor and a max penalty of one year and $4,000 (according to NORML'S website), reports Rolling Stone. Other outlets claim Nelson cannot be jailed at all on a misdemeanor charge.
