Pencil This In: Art Opening at La Luz De Jesus, An Improvised Musical and an Evening Hike

There’s an opening reception tonight at La Luz de Jesus Gallery for artists Bryan Cunningham, Brice Eichelberger, Bruce Eichelberger, Jessica Goldfinch Jason Houchen, Chris Roberts-Antieau, Gin Stevens and John Whipple. The exhibition runs through Jan. 2. Reception: 8-11 pm. Also, you can do some pretty cool Hanukkah/Christmas shopping done at Wacko/Soap Plant to boot.

COMEDY
Opening Night: The Improvised Musical
celebrates its 600th show at the iO West Theater tonight at 9 pm. Five cast members and an accompanist get a title suggestion for a faux musical and then perform an hour-long, made-up-on-the-spot show, with music, lyrics, comedy and dance. Tickets: $10.

VAUDEVILLE
The Traveling Carnival Freakshow is a holiday-themed variety/theater show featuring a mix of theatre, dance, burlesque and cabaret. The story is loosely based on the legend of The Nutcracker, but with a dark, magical twist set within the confines of a traveling freakshow. It opens tonight at 9 pm at the Eclectic Company Theatre. Runs through Dec. 19. Tickets: $15.

HIKE
There’s a Delving into Deep Space program and hike tonight at the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve tonight at 7 pm. Join volunteer astronomer Pat for an evening of star gazing and a moderate ½-mile hike. The free program lasts two hours. Parking is $3. Meet at the Victory Trailhead in Calabasas.
