It's A Wonderful Life (1946)

Merry Christmas Mr Cactus is what you might hear at today's opening of the It’s a Wonderful Life wonderland in the desert. It seems Frank Capra did some of that iconic scriptwriting in the desert quaintness of La Quinta near Palm Springs. In honor of this weirdness, they’re recreating Bedford Falls in all its caroling, lamp post, glory with screenings of the films, guest activities and instead of angel wings, they're giving away resort goodies. More info here and on the La Quinta site.

#SmallBizSaturday is the second child to Black Friday. Following in the footsteps of our Boutiques, Booze, & Bras: A Big Box Store-Free Black Friday deals guide, check the Twitterverse today for dozens of participating local joints and get yourself those on your shopping list some dramatically discounted goods.

40 Years of Space Photography may be the perfect counter balance to the persistent cacophony of earthly commercialism. Check out the ongoing FREE exhibit at the California Science Center, take a deep breath, and think waaaay out of the (gift)box.
