LAst Night's Action: Lakers Slug Past Bulls
LA Lakers defeat Chicago Bulls 98-91. With former Boston Celtics assistant coach/defense guru Tom Thibodeau now the head coach of these Bulls, the Lakers knew they would have their hands full. The Bulls made things tough in the paint for the Lakers while winning the rebound battle 46-38.
After the Bulls took an 81-79 lead with 8:12 left in the fourth quarter, the Lakers started to run the offense through Kobe Bryant at the elbow. If the double team came, he passed the ball to the open man on the perimeter. Hence in a three-minute stretch the Killer B’s - Shannon Brown, Matt Barnes and Steve Blake - made four three-pointers. The one time the Bulls didn’t double team Bryant he shot the 13-footer. And with that the Lakers had a 96-83 lead.
The Bulls would make things interesting down the stretch, but the Lakers held on for yet another win.
Brown had 21 points off the Lakers bench who outscored the Bulls bench 39-10. Derrick Rose led all scorers with 30 points while Bryant had 20 points. Pau Gasol was limited by Joakim Noah but still ended up with a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. However Noah had a double-double of his with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
