Sewage Spill in Burbank Forces Beach Closures in Long Beach
A sewage spill in Burbank has affected the beaches down in Long Beach, according to Everything Long Beach.
The closure was announced yesterday by City Health Officer Dr. Helene Calvet, and "prohibits water-based recreational activities and is specific to Long Beach’s open coastal beaches from 3rd Place to 72nd Place."
50,000 gallons of sewage hit the L.A. River following a break in a pressurized sewage line. Officials note that the spill is "unlikely to seriously impact the water quality," however "all open coastal beach areas [will remain] closed until further testing indicates that bacteria levels are within State standards to allow for recreational swimming and other water based activities."
