What's the Latest with Public Transit Connecting the Valley to the Westside?

Metro blogger Steve Hymon said it's "the one Measure R project in which no planning has taken place by Metro or any other agency." But that doesn't mean Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has an idea of what he would like it to be, but he's not sharing, he said in a conference call with reporters on Wednesday.
"I don't want to create a distraction," he said, shying from any hints of what he envisions because it's further down the list of projects. "That line has the potential to be one of the highest ridership lines of any line after the [Westside] subway. I think the folks doing the analysis will show that out. We'll deal with that when we get to it."
One idea we've heard in the past from congressional sources is that there is a desire to make it a rapid bus system of sorts. Others hope it's a train with a tunnel "under the hill."
