Salsa might be a ubiquitous condiment here in Southern California, but with so many varieties, styles, and techniques, no two bowls are alike.

LAist Featured Photos pool contributor R.E. ˜ was utterly enchanted by the salsas she found at Mexicali Taco [Twitter] which is at 1st and Beaudry in Downtown. She says:

I am absolutely in love with the amazing homemade salsas at Mexicali Taco Co. ~ Here is just a photo of 4 of them, but there is at least two more that I didn't photograph. Their tacos are so full of great flavors and their salsas make those flavors practically EXPLODE with goodness!

If you've got a pile of fresh tomatoes in your kitchen thanks to the bounty of the season, making up a batch of homemade salsa of your own can be fun and delicious. Tips, tricks, and a shoutout to your favorite salsa recipes or restaurants always welcome.
