There are several events taking place today around Los Angeles to remember the 9th anniversary of 9/11. Prayer services, flag raising, and candlelight vigils are happening all over Southern California.

MyFoxLA has a full listing of area of events, many of which are taking place at fire stations, such as in Beverly Hills, Long Beach, Santa Monica, and Sherman Oaks. Tonight's event in Sherman Oaks takes place at LAFD Station 88, which is "the home of Task Force I, an elite squad of Urban Search and Rescue teams that deployed to Ground Zero," where there is "an exterior 9/11 memorial, which includes a plaque and a steel girder from the World Trade Center."

Community service is the focus for Mayor Villaraigosa, who will join volunteers to "participate in two service projects in South Los Angeles: a community clean up, mural painting and plaque dedication at the Stanford-Avalon Farm and the completion of the garden at Gompers Middle School."
