Where Should the Eastside Gold Line End?
Just like the Gold Line's expansion beyond Pasadena in the foothill neighborhoods, it's also likely to get an extension east of the Eastside. At the moment there are two alternatives being discussed: one along the 60 Freeway from East Los Angeles to South El Monte and another that takes the 60 Freeway to Garfield to Washington, ending in Whittier.
That's about a 7-mile drive between the two terminating stations.
Curbed LA rounds up what each side is saying and they're all good points. Of those include Congresswoman Judy Chu saying the state already owns much of the right-of-way and the route would serve a number of colleges. Two Whittier City Councilmembers say the route serving them would add 15,000 people a day to the line, some 3,000 more than the South El Monte route.
