Chivas USA fell to FC Dallas last night by a score of 1 - 0 at Frisco, Texas. Dallas midfielder Break Shea put in the game’s sole goal at the 71st to give the home side the lead after the Chivas USA midfield had finally made some inroads.

The red-and-white midfield struggled through the majority of the first half and were unable to retain possession or build any momentum. Numerous giveaways and sloppy passing characterized their first half play and the team could not find a way to reach the offensive third.

Things began to change in favor of Chivas USA after the break. Chivas USA captain Jonathan Bornstein nearly gave the visitors the lead on partial break away only a few minutes after the restart, but Dallas ‘keeper Kevin Hartman was able to keep him off the score sheet. That play, however, seemed to have woken up the Chivas USA attack.

Chivas USA ‘keeper Zach Thornton put in another solid match to backup the rejuvenated offensive efforts, although Shea’s goal at the 71st minute was a bit of a setback to their momentum. Despite that goal, Chivas USA continued to fight. At the 77th minute, red-and-white defender Michael Umaña was set to tie the score on a great header from a corner kick, but Hartman intervened with a great save. Hartman would repeat the feat moments later, ironically, on a shot by Umaña’s fellow countryman Dario Delgado.

The shots by the tandem of Costan Rican internationals would be the closest the red-and-white would come to tie the score and the match ended with a score of 1 - 0. It is the red-and-white’s second loss in three matches this month. Next week they will take on DC United at the Home Depot Center. United is currently riding a 3 game losing streak (may be 4 after today’s match) and might just be what the red-and-white need to get a late season surge started.
