Moving up one spot from last year, a recently released ranking puts Los Angeles in the number 5 slot among global fashion cities.

The annual list is put together by the Global Language Monitor, a US based non-profit group who use "a proprietary algorithm that tracks words and phrases in print and electronic media, on the Internet and throughout the blogosphere."

Not surprisingly, New York is in the top spot, but L.A. managed to pull in ahead of some cities usually considered fashion powerhouses, like Milan (number 6) and Rome, who didn't even make the top 20.

Full list after the jump.
