Pencil This In: Poetry at the Beach House, Lee Ritenour at the Grammy Museum and Naughty Cartoons

The Antaeus Company’s ClassicsFest continues this week with a fully staged work-in-progress of Les Blancs by Lorraine Hansberry. Directed by Gregg Daniel, the play examines civil rights struggles through the tale of an “African from England who becomes entwined in conflict and rebellion on the continent.” Tonight at tomorrow at 8 pm at Deaf West Theatre. Tickets: $10.
DIRTY ‘TOONS
Tonight the Cinefamily presents the program Turned-On Toons (feat. Down And Dirty Duck) tonight at 8 pm. The 1974 Roger Corman-produced Down And Dirty Duck, was a response to the successful Fritz The Cat. “Duck is a strikingly stylized psychedelic odyssey of sexual frustration, and an off-color oddity that perfectly embodies the raunchy underground élan of the 1970s.” Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with director Charles Swenson. Tickets: $13/$9 for members.
MUSIC
The Grammy Museum welcomes jazz guitar great Lee Ritenour tonight at 8 pm. In this public program, Ritenour will discuss his musical influences, collaborations and guitar techniques. Afterwards, Ritenour will take questions from the audience and sign copies of his newest album, 6 String Theory. Tickets: $12.
POETRY*
The Annenberg Community Beach House’s Beach=Culture series continues with Poetry by the Sea at 6:30 pm. Red Hen Press presents three poets who’ll read from their acclaimed works: Chris Abani, recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, Francisco Aragon, award-winning editor and poet, and Jenny Factor, recipient of the Hayden Carruth Award. Admission: Free, but reservations are recommended.
