Suspect Arrested in Shooting of 7-Year-Old Bicycle-Riding Boy
The suspect who apparently fired a gun during an argument Wednesday evening, wounding a young boy in a nearby park in Norwalk, has been arrested, the L.A. Sheriff's Department announced. At about 11 a.m. on Thursday, 21-year-old Charles German Vera was arrested during a surveillance when he was driving with his mother on the 5 Freeway.
On Wednesday evening, the 7-year-old boy was riding a bicycle with his father in Holifield Park when a bullet hit him in the torso. Vera and another man were reportedly arguing outside the park when he pulled a gun. Vera allegedly fired the gun, missing his intended target, but hitting the boy before he fled.
Detectives seek charges of attempted murder. Bail was set at one million dollars.
