North Korean Food Truck a Fake
Since it debuted last month, it hasn't been much of a secret, but many don't know. Here goes: Pyongyang Express, the North Korean food truck that carries images of dictator Kim Jong Il and the country's flag is just viral marketing for a video game.
"We don't like people truckin' with our emotions and playing us for fools," bemoaned Grub Street Los Angeles, which asks if this is a new low in corporate marketing. The truck, which serves up a sparse Korean-Mexican menu, actually is a front for a video game called Homefront, where you kill North Korean soldiers attacking the U.S.
In June, the truck apparently parked in front of the Korean Consulate and was chased away by armed guards, according to G4.
When asked what's the difference between North and South Korean food, the apparent owner told LA Taco that "North Korean people take much honor and care in every ingredient use in recipe. Unlike very fast, tasteless food. Pyongyang BBQ cater gourmet food and should not be considered street food."
It's all very odd, but the food is reportedly pretty good. The game comes out in 2011, so this truck might be sticking around for awhile.
