Public Works + Twitter = Cost-Cutting Info Sharing

parcel-map-screenshot.jpg The Los Angeles County Public Works Department is using Twitter to keep people connected with the latest updates on the lay of the land.

Just launched, @LACoSurveyor aims to use the free social media service to keep people apprised about "tract map and parcel map recordations throughout Los Angeles County, including the unincorporated areas and all 88 cities," via daily updates. Plus they'll mix in "other land surveying and development-related tweets covering a variety of industry topics, such as proposed legislation or policy changes, and updated subdivision processing guidelines."

The Twitter account is one way the department is helping cut costs; by linking people online to info they need they will ideally reduce the number of office visits to get the same info from personnel.
