THEATER
Spike Heels by Theresa Rebeck is playing at Theatre 68 in Hollywood and offers a “modern twist on Pygmalion as the lead character, Georgie, finds a way to accept who she is, flaws and all.” The title refers to how people are judged on how they’re dressed and how a pair of shoes can change a woman's entire attitude. Tickets: $10-$15.
BOOKS
Tonight author Sloane Crosley brings her second collection of humour essays How did You Get This Number to Book Soup tonight at 7 pm. We follow her life in New York and travels Paris and to Portugal (which she picked by spinning a globe and putting down her finger.) She also writes about a trip to Alaska, “where the bear bells on her fellow bridesmaids' ponytails seemed silly until a grizzly cub dramatically intrudes.”
DANCE*
The L.A. Contemporary Dance Company and the a capella group Sonos are on a double bill with Bodytraffic to present Made in LA, an evening of contemporary dance, theatre and music. 8:30 pm. Tickets: $30; $12 for full-time students with ID and children 12 and under.
PERFORMANCE
Tonight at 8:30 pm, recipients of the COLA Individual Artist Fellowships Fernando D. Castro, Ken Roht and maRia Bodmann present an evening of “imaginative poetry reading, provocative solo performance, and awe-inspiring shadow puppetry” at Grand Performances on the California Plaza. Mature content and strong language in some performances. 8:30 pm. Free.
