Videos: Killer Whales Seen Up Close off Orange County's Coast
Last month, a pod of playful killer whales were seen in the San Pedro Channel (you can watch that video here). Now a group -- possibly the same one? -- was spotted between two whale watching boats yesterday, just three miles from the beaches of Dana Point, feasting upon a dead sea lion.
An up close and personal encounter was documented on video, which can be seen here. “It was incredible. In all my years of watching killer whales, I’ve never actually seen them go after a mammal," explained said Dave Anderson of Capt. Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Safari to the OC Register. "This was kind of a first.”
Another group, Dana Wharf Whale Watching and Sportsfishing, also saw the whales yesterday and posted the above video to YouTube. And over the weekend, a boater off the Ventura coast also spotted a pod of killer whales near shore.
