Pencil This In: Food, Classic Comedy and Learning to Relax
TALK
Some members of the EAT: Los Angeles 2010 team are making an appearance tonight at Pages bookstore in Manhattan Beach. Linda Burum, Miles Clements, Amelia Saltsman, Jenn Garbee and Colleen Dunn Bates will all be on hand to discuss Southern Californian food gems, with a special focus on the South Bay region. Attendees will also have an opportunity to have the writers sign their copy of the book and mingle with them as they taste goods from local eateries Simmzy's and Tin Roof Bistro. Starts at 7:00 PM.
THEATRE
Here are a couple of things most people wouldn't typically associate with each other: mariachis and Shakespeare. Of course, if you are familiar with East L.A. Classic Theatre, the two go hand-in-hand with each other. Tonight, Le Conte Middle School in Hollywood plays host to the group's rendition of Much Ado About Nothing, but set in Puebla, Mexico circa 1862. Starts at 6:00 PM. FREE admission.
LEARN
A little meditation is not going to solve all of your problems, but it might be just what the Doctor ordered to get you through the rest of the week, especially if you have been having a rough week. The Kadampta Meditation Center California is conducting special meditation class for $12, starting at 7:00 PM. It includes two guided meditations and discussion with some insights on Buddhist approaches to meditation and leveraging the practices to overcome anger in any situation.
MUSEUM
The Museum of Tolerance presents Courage: the Vision to End Segregation the Guts to Fight for It, documenting the struggles for equal rights in public schools and the end to segregation. On exhibit are materials telling the story dating back to initial lawsuits in Clarendon County, South Carolina and follows the timeline of events leading to the historic Supreme Court decision on the case of Brown vs. Board of Education. Through August 23rd.
