LAst Night's Action: Not So Perfect Day for Angels
Seattle Mariners defeat LA Angels 8-1. While the Seattle bats woke up, the Angel bats decided to wait until they got home for Monday’s game to appear. In the fourth inning Angels’ starter Ervin Santana gave up an Earl Weaver to Josh Wilson and a solo homer to Michael Saunders back-to-back to give the Mariners the 4-0 lead. Franklin Gutierrez doubled home Ichiro Suzuki in the fifth inning to add on a run. And after a wild pitch by Brandon League on a swinging third strike by Kendry Morales allowed Reggie Willits to cut into the Mariners lead 5-1 in the eighth inning, the Mariners got three more off of Brian Stokes in the home half of the inning to avoid the sweep.
LA Dodgers defeat Colorado Rockies 2-0. Read my recap of the game. A little birdie tells me that Matthew McConaughey doppelganger John Ely will be brought back up to the Dodgers Monday.
NOTABLE NOTES
- Dallas Braden, protector of pitching mounds everywhere from Alex Rodriguez, proved to the world he is king of his mound tossing Major League Baseball’s 19th perfect game for the Oakland Athletics’ 4-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Going from who-the-fuck-is-this-dude-yapping-at-A-Rod to the Hero of the 209 (that’s Stockton to you suckas,) Braden struck out six Rays and made 109 pitches thanks to the effectiveness of his change-up. He became the second Athletic to toss a perfect game - Catfish Hunter had a perfect game 42 years and one day ago. The Tampa Bay Rays now have been on the wrong end of a perfect game in two seasons - Chicago White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle retired all 27 Rays on July 23. Also Tampa Bay becomes the team with the best record to be perfected against. With all of baseball celebrating Mother’s Day and raising awareness for breast cancer with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Braden’s mom died of skin cancer when he was in high school. However his grandmother Peggy Lindsey was on hand to witness this feat.
