Get Out: SanMo Festival, Free Ice Cream! Movies Galore
Santa Monica Festival
This weekend is a time not only to honor our mothers, but Mother Earth as well, and this fest is a great way to do both (if you have mama in tow of course). This eco-friendly event features musical performances, art workshops, a global cafe and marketplace, as well as an "Eco Zone" and "Town Square Meet" each of which introduces participants to individuals and organizations helping to green the city. Clover Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Free Jeni's Ice Cream
Only lately has the weather been truly ice cream worthy, so the Cube Cafe is right on time in offering us this freebie. They're now carrying 16 flavors of Jeni's ice cream, which is made by French patisserie-trained, Ohio-based creator Jeni Britton Bauer. Her ice creams are billed as "less sweet but more flavorful" - we're particularly intrigued by Salty Caramel, Kona Stout and Queen City Cayenne. Let us know which one's your favorite.
Movies Three Ways
There's certainly never a shortage of interesting movie events in L.A., but today there seems to be a trifecta of comedy, kids stuff and thriller, with at least one guaranteed to lure you to the box office.
First off, Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke is playing at the Devil's Night Drive In. Gates at 7 p.m., screening at 8:30 p.m.
Or if you've got kids (or simply feel like regressing) check out the Aero Theatre's Popeye and Betty Boop cartoon screenings beginning at 5:00 p.m., presented by Every Picture Tells a Story.
And if a nail-biter is more your fancy, we recommend staying for Alfred Hitchcock double feature, which will be screening Psycho and Spellbound tonight beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Aero Theatre as well.
Tickets for each event can be purchased here, here, and here, respectively.
