New Rules Could Mean Watching First-Run Movies at Home
A FCC decision today approved a request to allow first-run movies to be seen on home TVs, even while films are still in theatres, according to The Wrap.
"Approving a request by the Motion Picture Association of America, the FCC rejected objections from the National Association of Theater Owners and the Independent Film and Television Alliance, who argued that the move would 'deprive consumers of valuable cultural resources,' 'reduce access to independently produced films' and threaten the future of 'sleepers' being developed," the film industry website said.
However, the move comes with a request to turn off second outputs during a viewing of any movie not out on DVD, which technologically speaking, making watch such a movie difficult.
