Harlem Place Could Soon be a Green Space

harlem-place-alley.jpg The three-block Harlem Place Alley in downtown could be getting a green makeover, thanks to a project from UC-Santa Barbara in conjunction with the local neighborhood council, reports blogdowntown. Under the proposal, vehicle access woudl remain, but most all stormwater could be captured by using permeable paving and planted vegetation in underutilized spots. "Greenwalls" would help reduce the temperature by two degrees celsius. All this, of course, would need funding, to the tune of $300,000 to $1 million.
