LAst Night's Action: Kings No Prey for Predators
LA Kings defeat Nashville Predators 2-0. This was a game where the unheralded players became the unsung heroes. Going into the game the Kings had not beaten the Predators since March 13, 2008 in Nashville and after their recent four-game losing streak it didn’t look optimistic. But Jonathan Bernier relieved Jonathan Quick at the net and saved all 34 shots on goal by the Predators for his first career NHL shutout. Scott Parse got the first score in the game 7:50 in the third period on an assist by Jeff Halpern and Randy Jones, his 11th of the season and third in two games. Defenseman Sean O’Donnell on a four-on-four situation near the end of the game fooled everyone and shot the puck getting his third goal of the season with 2:01 remaining. Even though the Kings were outshot 34-31 in the game they only turned the puck over 11 times to the Predators 16 while winning the takeaway margin 19-5. The Kings magic number of points to clinch a playoff spot is six and return home for games against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday and the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.
Milwaukee Bucks defeat LA Clippers 107-89. Both Drew Gooden and Chris Kaman got double-doubles for the Clippers which weren’t enough for the team to get the season sweep of the Bucks. Gooden’s 20 points and 11 rebounds and Kaman’s 17 points and 10 rebounds did nothing to overcome the team’s 36.8% shooting. Meanwhile the Bucks got contributions not only from their stars Brandon Jennings with 17 points and Andrew Bogut with 14 points and nine assists, Jerry Stackhouse scored 16 and Ersan Ilyasova added 20 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
