LAst Night's Action: Ducks Play Cheap and Win
Anaheim Ducks defeat Chicago Blackhawks 4-2. The Ducks further cemented their reputation as a cheap shot team in their desperate win against Chicago. After Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook made a clean hit on Corey Perry behind the Chicago net 2:12 into the second period, James Wisniewski decided to skate the 65 feet from the blue line, leave his skates and launch into Seabrook’s head 10 seconds later despite the fact Perry was right there getting ready to get in his retaliatory hit. Seabrook was literally knocked out but scraped himself off the ice while Wisniewski was only given a two minute minor boarding penalty. The other cheapie came with 5:36 left in the game that was still tied 2-2. Hawks defenseman Brent Sopel was getting ready to play a puck that was deflected high into the air. Perry skated up behind him and knocked him down and gained possession of the puck which then allowed Saku Koivu to score the go-ahead goal for the Ducks instead of being called for interference. Bobby Ryan on his 23rd birthday bookended the game with goals 4:08 in the first period and the empty netter with 53 seconds left in the game to ice things. The Ducks have now won two in a row against the top two teams in the Western Conference and have won three of four against the Blackhawks.
LA Clippers defeat Milwaukee Bucks 101-93. The Clippers did something very uncharacteristic: they played a strong fourth quarter to win a game. After taking a nine point lead into the half, the Bucks went on a scoring frenzy filled with threes by Brandon Jennings and good defense that forced the Clippers to take bad shots. Trailing by two going into the final quarter the Clippers then answered back with a stingy zone defense and starting taking better shots break a six game losing streak in front a national television audience. Chris Kaman led the Clips with 20 points while Drew Gooden had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
