Pencil This In: Storytelling Workshop in Santa Monica, Giving Voice to Women in Afghanistan

Today is International Women's Day, an annual celebration of women's achievements throughout history. To celebrate, there will be dramatic readings from The Afghan Women’s Writing Project at 6 pm at the Museum of Tolerance. The project fosters Afghan women to have a direct voice in the world. Tonight’s event features a reception followed by dramatic readings from 12 of our Afghan women writers. Scheduled readers are: Jennifer Beals (The L Word), Summer Bishil (Towelhead), Nadia Bjornlin (Days of Our Lives),  Conchata Ferrell (Two and a Half Men), Jodi Long (All-American Girl)  Nichelle Nichols (Star Trek), Teal Sherer (The Guild), Bahar Soomekh (Saw IV) and Marcia Wallace (The Simpsons).  STORYTELLING WORKSHOP
Professional multicultural storyteller Michael D. McCarty conducts a performance and workshop at the Annenberg Beach House in Santa Monica. Bring your memories and McCarty will guide you to develop stories out of life’s ordinary moments. The event begins at 6 pm. Come early and take a tour of the Beach House. RSVP required.

CLASSICAL
It’s time for another Monday Evening Concert at the Colburn School’s Zipper Concert Hall. The program focuses on the work of British composer Frank Denyer, including three U.S. premieres. He’ll be conducting as well. Also on the bill: Alvin Lucier’s transfixing Still Lives and James Tenney’s Three Pieces for Drum Quartet. 8 pm. Tickets: $27, $12 students.

SEMINAR
The Ladies Who Launch organization presents a seminar by author and entrepreneur Kimberly Wilson, founder of yoga studios, an eco-clothing line and a nonprofit, will discuss how to take your business to the next level. She’ll discuss social media, community and clients, and marketing. The event will be held at The CenterPointe Club in Playa Vista. Tickets are $29.
