Pencil This In: Fight for Equal Rights, NY Film Festival in L.A.

BENEFIT
A variety of artists, including Shepard Fairey, Barry McGee, Ron English and Eric Otto, have all lent their talents to support Manifest Equality. The art exhibit opens to the public today and runs through March 7th. Organizers describe the collection as a visual call-to-action whose aim is to encourage support for equal rights for all at the local, state and federal level, regardless of sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion and all other similar aspects used to segment groups of people. Exhibit is open from 11 AM to 6 PM daily, with extended hours on Friday.

FILM
The New York International Film Festival is getting ready to pack up and head out of town. Today and tomorrow are the final days of the festival, with films screening at the Culver Plaza Theatres. Today's program includes the dramatic works Fine Line and I Am Somebody. The former follows the life of a young man as his mental state deteriorates due to serious losses in his life. The latter is set in the 1870's and examines the case of a Chinese immigrant trying to defend himself of a crime he did not commit in a country where he has little, if any, rights.

THEATRE
Atwater Village Theatre hosts Winterfest 2010, kicking off tonight at 8 PM. The annual festival showcases over 20 works by members of Ensemble Studio Theatre LA. Past works by their parent organization based in New York have garnered Academy, Golden Globe and Tony Awards amongst other accomplishments. This year's festival runs through March 14th.

MUSEUM
The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in downtown celebrates the 18th annual Art of Motion Picture Costume Design with an exhibit featuring over 100 costumes reflecting the creativity and skill required to capture the essence of the time they are to represent. The costumes were originally designed for one of over a dozen films released last year. Through April 7th.
