Pencil This In: Haze x Stussy S/S 2010 Launch Party, Burlesque, Ballet Set to Joni Mitchell's Music

There’s a launch event tonight for the US release of the Haze x Stussy S/S 2010 collection tonight at the Known Gallery on Fairfax from 8-11 pm. The exhibition will include more than 30 framed pieces of the original art created for the collection, a custom built display of the finished products, video installations and a mural inside the gallery. Stussy will release a limited edition T-shirt to commemorate the event, featuring artwork by Haze ($28) and the limited edition Haze x Pro Keds collaborative sneaker will also be available for purchase.
BALLET
The Alberta Ballet performs a dance interpretation of the music of Joni Mitchell at UCLA’s Royce Hall tonight and tomorrow. The politically themed ballet originated as a collaboration between Mitchell and Jean Grand-Maître, artistic director of The Alberta Ballet. Grand-Maître expanded that collaboration to feature a full ballet of 14 Mitchell songs for his company, including “Ethiopia,” “Shine,” “The Reoccurring Dream,” and “Woodstock.” The performance also features multimedia art installation of 64 large triptychs depicting various wars and revolutions created by Joni Mitchell that serve as a cohesive set design for the culturally relevant ballet. 8 pm. Tickets are $32/$44/$56/$75. ($15 UCLA Students.)
MUSIC
Portraits of Artists and Composers is a musical performance by Polli Chambers-Salazar at the Norton Simon Museum from 7-8 pm tonight. Dr. Chambers-Salazar performs a variety of piano works from the early 20th century and discusses the interconnections among the artists and composers.
BURLESQUE
Sealed with a Kiss Burlesque is holding its first show as a fundraiser at The Attic Theater and Film Center for the The Attic Theater. Burlesque performers include Dizzy Von Damn, with performances by Holly Go Darkly, Iona Vibrator, Iza La Vamp, Lucille Highball, Bebe Firefly, Honey Ima Home, Ali Oops, Jersey Shore, Lily of the Bawdy and Brian Robinson. The show includes comedians, jugglers and singers, too. Doors at 8 pm, show at 9 pm. $15 cover/$12 with flyer from their Facebook page.
BOOKS
Tonight at 7 pm at Vroman’s, Matthew Flaming discusses and signs his book The Kingdom of Ohio. Here’s the summary from Vroman’s: “After coming across an old photo, Peter Force must revisit the history he has struggled to deny. The photo depicts him, a young frontier adventurer who arrived in New York in 1901, and a young girl: Cheri- Anne Toledo, a beautiful mathematical prodigy whose memories appear to come from another world. Upon their chance meeting Peter believes her to be crazy, but as they are drawn into a tangle of overlapping intrigues, he must reexamine her secret. Did she indeed stumble across the key to time travel?”
